Window Dressing

Window Dressing

Window Dressing is the unscrupulous practice of trading securities merely to improve the appearance of a portfolio for quarter end reporting.  Nefarious Portfolio Managers employ Window Dressing to superficially make their portfolios look better for clients.  Within a portfolio, Window Dressing involves selling losers and buying winners so that the portfolio appears to have held only high-performing securities for the entire reporting period.
