Trade Order

A Trade Order is a request to buy/purchase or sell/liquidate a security traded on an exchange (e.g. NYSE). The main order types are summarized below:

  • Market Order

  • Limit Order

  • Stop Order – activated/elected when Market Price hits or passes through the specified trigger price

    • Market (known as Stop Order) – filled at the next available price

    • Limit (known as Stop Limit Order) – specifies an execution price

    • Buy – placed above the current market price

    • Sell (known as Stop Loss) – placed below the current market price. Scenario: investor is bullish on XYZ stock but fears a possible downturn in the short-term
